A wise physician once said, “The best medicine for humans is love.” Someone asked, “What if it doesn’t work?” He smiled and answered, “Increase the dose.” ~ Unknown

Duke University & the Science of Christianity

Presenting Christian Science to Duke University's Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Healthby Don Ingwerson I’ve been following Dr. Harold Koenig’s work at Duke University’s Center for Spirituality, Theology, and Health for a number of years, and recently he shared his thoughts on the link between health and prayer on NPR. It was an interesting discussion, and you can listen to it here: Is there a link […]   Read more...

Self-Identification and Disease

120-FED4JJQJRMy colleague Eric Nelson writing for the September 20, 2015 Communities Digital News shares good reasons to exchange a disease-prone view of ourselves for one that is more heath-inducing. “Get down off your cross.” Harsh words, perhaps, especially when you consider that the one who said them is a longtime hospital chaplain, and the woman she was […]   Read more...

The healthy side effects of prayer

Emilyby Don Ingwerson Here’s another great story of healing through Christian Science. Meet Emily. She needed to address an eating disorder and did so by working and praying with a Christian Science Practitioner for about a year. At the same time, her eyesight improved and she found she no longer needed glasses. To watch this […]   Read more...

Grace expresses gratitude ... and vice versa

Is gratitude important? Can its practice have an impact on one’s health and physical well-being? My colleague Wendy Margolese from Northern Ontario, Canada shares a spiritual perspective on this topic. Many cultures around the world have a unique way of offering grace before a meal, whether over a bowl of pasta or a plate of pad […]  Read more...

9/11 remembered with prayer

shared via Virginia Harris, CSB

The Lord is the shepherd of my thoughts;
I shall not want for divine ideas.
He makes me rest in the awareness of my own divinity:
He leads me to the inner stillness.
He restores my soul to its inner purity:
He guides me in the right use of my powers and abilities.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of doubt,
I will fear no evil – for thou art with me;
Thy power and thy presence, they comfort me.
Thou preparest an unlimited blessing for me, in every situation:
Thou anointest my head with understanding;
My whole being is filled with the light of thy understanding.
Surely God’s ideas are mine all the days of my life:
And I shall dwell in this perfect awareness forever.

The reign of the kingdom of heaven within

Daily Thought from the weekly Bible lesson
This week's subject: Substance

September 11, 2015
Let unselfishness, goodness, mercy, justice, health, holiness, love — the kingdom of heaven — reign within us, and sin, disease, and death will diminish until they finally disappear.

True refuge for the refugees

Prayer for the refugees

Prayer for the refugees

It is heart rending to read about the thousands of refugees fleeing the ravages of war in the Mid-East in search of a safe place to live. The image of the dead boy found on a beach in Turkey captured the world’s attention and accentuated just how desperate these people are. The refugees certainly need our prayers and open hearts to help find their way to a resting place they can trust.
In my prayers, I pray to see them in the presence of God no matter where they are standing at the moment. To see that they are not alone, that God goes before them and that divine Love prepares a path for them to walk that leads to a home they can trust. ...

Fear is unhealthy

by Don Ingwerson Mary Baker Eddy once said of the press: “The press unwittingly sends forth many sorrows and diseases among the human family.” And, “Looking over the newspapers of the day, one naturally reflects that it is dangerous to live, so loaded with disease seems the very air.” Listen as Stephanie Hanes, journalist and […]   Read more...

Defeat Stress to Find Joy and Health
A guest post written by Joan Clark from Redlands, California. When I recently googled the words stress and health, I was amazed to see over 554,000 entries appear. Needless to say, I didn’t need to scroll very far to see that stress and health are invariably linked and that dire outcomes are predicted if the […]   Read more...
